MSDF, U.S. NAVY TO HOLD MANEUVERS
The Maritime Self-Defense Force and the United States Navy will jointly conduct Antisubmarine warfare training maneuvers in waters along the pacific coast of northern Honshu and in the Sea of Japan from Friday through June 10th, the Defense Agency announced Tuesday.
According to the announcement, a total of 13 Japanese destroyers, P2V and S2F Antisubmarine patrol planes will take part in the joint maneuvers, under the command of Rear Admiral Kiyozumi Tanigawa.
The United States Navy is dispatching the antisubmarine aircraft carrier BENNINGTON, six destroyers, two submarines and an oiler to participate in the training. The United States force will be commanded by Vice Admiral W. J. Moran.
The fleets are expected to perform maneuvers for locating and attacking submarines. They will also undergo training in maritime defense and refueling at sea.
