DRY DOCK, LONG BEACH, NAVAL SHIPYARD 11/1965




Sailing from Yokosuka, Japan on 23 September 1965, the USS BENNINGTON CVS-20, returned to her homport of Long Beach on 7 October, 1965. On 15 November, 1965, BENNINGTON entered the Long Beach Naval Shipyard for regular overhaul.

After an extended overhaul and modernization which was completed in April of 1966, BENNINGTON Set sail on 6 May for CARQUALS & ORI off San Diego. During this time, the first carrier landings of VTOL (Vertical Take-off & Landing Aircraft) were conducted on 18 May 1966.
