Larry Ausborne (1967-1968)

Hello Shipmates,

I was in the navy from oct 66 till july 70. I was aboard the Bennington 67 to 68 last cruise to nam. I was in HS8 antisubmarine squadron. The squadron was disbanned at the same time. I went from there to VFP-63 at NAS Miramar, was discharged from there. Came back home worked at different job for awhile, then became an auto mech, moved up from that to finally service manager. Now I work for Terminix Pest Control and like the job no pressure like it was in the auto industry.

I'm married, have two wonderful daughters, a great wife, and a beautiful 4 year old granddaughter. I joined the Mississippi National Guard in 1978, stayed in for 2 yrs. got out for 5, then got back in for 6 more. Got to the rank of E6. Got into it with a officer, got out for 5 more now im back in. I like 3 to 5 yrs retiring from it. I'm in combat engineers. My son-in-law is also in the guard full time as a recrutier.

While I was aboard the Bennie, we had a chopper go down while we were on carrier qualifications. My roommate and a good friend were lost at sea plus the pilot, co-pilot got out alive. My roommate liked 30 days getting out of the navy. The squadron changed the number on another chopper to the same one the downed one had and put the co-pilot back in the air. You get thrown from a horse you get back on right away or you never do. Will go for now. By the way, I was an ADJ3 plane captain or brown shirt. If there are any one from HS8 or VFP63 get in touch .

Thanks
Larry Ausborne
